Phaidon chef authors win big at The World's 50 Best Restaurants and James Beard Awards
The 2024 awards see our food book stars recognised and rewarded
Phaidon chef authors were the special ingredients in The World's 50 Best Restaurants and James Beard Awards this week.
Jason Hammel’s Lula Café won the prestigious Outstanding Hospitality Award in the James Beard Awards. Meanwhile, a number of Phaidon chef authors and their restaurants made their way up the World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list.

Among the top performers were JP Park’s Atomix USA which jumped two places from number 8 on the list to number 6. JP, is, of course, the author of The Korean Cookbook.
Meanwhile, Bertrand Grebaut saw his restaurant Septime dramatically climb from last year’s number 24 on the list to just outside the top ten, at number 11 on this year’s list.

Phaidon’s legendary chef authors Ferran Adria, Massimo Bottura, Rene Redzepi, and Virgilio Martinez were all honoured in a new Best of the Best section of The World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards.

Other Phaidon chef author-related restaurants on this year’s 50 Best list included: Borago, Chile #29 (Rodolfo Guzman of Borago); Pujol, Mexico #33 (Enrique Olvera, Mexico from the Inside Out, Tu Casa Mi Casa); Ikoyi, UK #42 (Jeremy Chan, Ikoyi); Hisa Franko, Slovenia #48 (Ana Ros, Ana Ros); Mil, Peru #73 (Virgilio Martinez, Central, The Latin American Cookbook); Mugaritz, Spain #81 (Andoni Luis Aduriz, Mugaritz); Cosme, USA #99 (Enrique Olvera, Mexico from the Inside Out, Tu Casa Mi Casa).
