Happy 85th birthday Tomi Ungerer!
Eric Carle, Jean Julien, Milton Glaser, Oliver Jeffers and Stefan Sagmeister all pay tribute to the 85-year-old author
The veteran children’s author Tomi Ungerer turns 85 today, 28 November, and to mark the occasion we have published a treasury of eight of his books. This hardback set comes with a wonderful slipcase and also includes more than 50 previously unpublished sketches, storyboards, and photographs.
Yet we aren’t the only ones paying tribute to this masterful artist and story teller. During his long and illustrious career writing and illustrating many touching children’ stories, Ungerer also drew anti-war posters, political cartoons and graphic memoirs.
Working in both Europe and North America, Ungerer befriended and influenced such like-minded creatives as Maurice Sendak and Jules Feiffer, many of whom have offered their birthday wishes here. You can see touching illustrated birthday letters from Eric Carle, Jean Jullien, Milton Glaser, Oliver Jeffers, Quentin Blake and Stefan Sagmeister among others.
