Junior Press Officer, Phaidon (permanent)

About the Role:
Reporting to the Head of Press, UK & Export, we are seeking an exceptional Junior Press Officer. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous publicity experience to contribute ideas and passion to a small and friendly team based at Sugar House Island (E15), London.
Responsibilities will include assisting in planning and implementing impactful, creative and intelligent publicity campaigns, incorporating both traditional and online media, preparing mail-outs to media and assisting with departmental administration. The ideal candidate will also have a sound knowledge of, and be active on, social media and will implement online media campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implementing publicity campaigns independently as well as working with the Head of Press, UK & Export
- Working closely with colleagues in the US and our European offices, sharing campaign ideas and strategies
- Working with wider marketing and sales teams (such as reps, marketing, social media, and website) to ensure press campaigns are integrated with them and deliver the objectives set
- Building relationships directly with authors
- Attending regular journalist meetings and growing your network of contacts
- Managing departmental and personal administration
- Assisting organising and implementing high-profile author events
You will:
- Be proactive – someone who seeks out new opportunities and comes up with fresh ideas
- Be creative in your campaign ideas and planning
- Be organised and have excellent attention to detail
- Have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team

Essential Criteria:
- 1 year PR experience either in-house or agency
- An interest and passion for the subjects that Phaidon publish and a specialist interest in any one or more of these subjects
- A strong understanding and proven interest in broadcast, print, digital and social media

Managing Editor – Culinary Titles (London)
Phaidon are looking to appoint an exceptional Managing Editor for its small culinary titles list, based in London. This role will be responsible for the freelance culinary editorial team, establishing and fostering a highly collaborative culture, and ensuring the smooth running of our culinary books.
Working closely with the Managing Editor, Publisher and Commissioning Editors, the Managing Editor for Culinary will be responsible for overseeing editorial assignments and workloads, tracking and maintaining the commissioning pipeline, and helping the team to resolve problems to keep books on time and budget, within Phaidon’s exacting standards. In addition to their overall managerial responsibilities, the successful candidate will also lead special projects and the culinary reprint process, imprint page checks and the conversion of books into new formats, editions and bindings.
Substantial and proven project-management experience of complex illustrated culinary books is essential, along with first-class communication skills, a dedication to excellence and accuracy, the ability to work calmly under pressure, and a talent for building strong relationships with others. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrable knowledge of and passion for the culinary world.
